Wladimir Klitschko
kept his stranglehold on the heavyweight division with a 6th round
stoppage of American Tony Thompson.
Thompson started well winning the 1st round before Wlad got his
piston –like jab going. By the 5th Thompson had slowed down
dramatically and was floored by a big shot from the champ. He did well to beat
the count and Wlad seemed keen to let him see the next round by standing off
rather than unleashing a combination which would have surely ended the fight.
Not that we had long to wait for the end, as a barrage of punching from Wlad so
Thompson bundled to the canvas in a heap. He gamely got to his feet on the 7
count, but the referee waved the fight off to save him from further punishment.
Thompson appeared to have no complaints. Wlad will now be eagerly watching the
David Haye vs Derek Chisora fight to see if there is a potential opponent
there. He will also be aware of the progress fellow giants David Price and
Tyson Fury are making.
